Academy Acting

Led by a Disney Show Director or improvisational Actor, Academy Acting provides students with the building blocks of basic theater, performance and storytelling techniques. The focus of this 90-minute session will be on tapping into each person's unique qualities, thereby giving them useful tools with which to enhance their performance abilities. Students will learn how to build character, introduce improvisational skills, and emphasis will be placed on maintaining professionalism on the stage& something that will serve any actor well while at school and beyond.

Requirements: A minimum of 15 participants is required. Academy Acting is recommended for all levels of actors. Large groups may be split between two workshop locations at no additional cost.

Auditions and Careers: Acting

Intermediate to advanced theater ensemble members follow in the steps of Disneyland® Resort performers going through a simulated audition process. Students will participate in an audition like no other - one in which the Show Director stops to critique your audition, and shows you how you can increase your odds of landing a job as a professional actor. Once your group members are "cast," they will learn a Disney scene, and along the way they will be shown the "tricks of the trade" that make performances exemplary.

Requirements: A minimum of 15 participants is required. Auditions and Careers Workshops are 90-minute sessions and are recommended for advanced acting ensembles.

Careers in Costuming

Disney Costumers are award-winning professionals, and their hard work can been seen in many theatrical productions around the world. Join a Disneyland® Resort costumer in an interactive discussion that will illustrate the varied kinds of work to be found as a theatrical costumer or fashion designer, and show what it takes to become a professional in this multi-faceted industry. Along the way, theater students will see samples of elaborate Disney entertainment costume designs and some of our rarely-seen costume production facilities.

Requirements: A minimum of 15 participants is required. Careers in Costuming is a 90-minute session that is recommended for high school and college theatrical costuming and fashion teams.

Improvisational Acting

Led by a Disney Improv Actor, this workshop challenges students to stretch their creative talent in a non-threatening, supportive environment. Through the use of a wide variety of improv-based games and activities, students will learn how character and motivation enhance their performance. Through the exercise of improvisational techniques, students quickly discover that they have gained confidence in their own instincts.

Requirements: A minimum of 15 participants is required. Improvisational Acting Workshops are 90-minute sessions and are recommended for intermediate to advanced acting ensembles. Large groups may be split between two workshop locations at no additional cost.

Performance Lab

Achieving fantastic performance — every time — is the goal of this 90-minute workshop designed to enhance the skills of any performance ensemble. Fun is the conduit to great learning in this class, where students will be guided by a Disney Entertainer through improvisational exercises that demonstrate key concepts important to any performer. At its conclusion, participants come away with tools that can make their individual and collective performances great, and their bond as a performance team even greater.

Puppet Lab

The art of animating an inanimate object may be as old as the theatre itself, but at Disney the art of puppetry is everywhere you look! Using puppets and techniques designed for some of our own Disney shows, students will learn key concepts in excellent puppet performance. This 90-minute, hands-on workshop will reinforce the basics for beginners, and will allow advanced performers to stretch their skills toward the potential of a career as a professional puppeteer!
